Pictured here after some major decisions were made. The trunk has lots of movement (and branches, OCTOPUS STYLE), and it's a fatty! Some of the sacrifice branches could make for some interesting deadwood features. The design is still very up in the air. July 2010.
The main trunk line is showing itself at last! One difficult thing about using false cypress for bonsai is that they don't tend to bud from older wood. Only the green stems that you see near the tips of the branches are producing new growth. Combine this with the dieback that occurs on heavily shaded foliage and it can be a difficult plant to work with. Regular pinching of new growth to keep branches open and rotating the tree in full sun seems to be a solution. September 2010.
