Pinus banksiana 'Schoodic'

What if a green shag carpet came to life? It would be really cool and also it would look like Pinus banksiana ‘Schoodic’.

The original seedling that ‘Schoodic’ was cultivated from originated from the Schoodic peninsula of Massachusett. Today, the contorted sprawling habit still evokes images of seaside cliffs looking out at the Atlantic ocean.

Pinus banksiana, jack pine, dates back to Captain Cook’s expedition and grow in some of the most variable climates of any pine.‘Schoodic’ share the same ability to grow in variable climates ranging from zone 2 to zone 7.

As the emerald green needles sprawl over the ground or over the top of a rock wall, young purple shaded cones begin to be produce and mature to a rich brown color. The cones are produced heavily and at young age on this cultivated variety making yet another compelling garden feature.

Perfect for sprawling ground cover in a rock garden or used as rich green splash of color for 365 days a year, in any setting, this plant conjures up history of early explorers and seaside cliffs.
