Discovered as a chance seedling in a cultivated group of grafted Picea pungens ‘Moerheimii’ trees (1972).
Misc Facts
"Genus name is reportedly derived from the Latin word pix meaning pitch in reference to the sticky resin typically found in spruce bark". (#144)
Author's Notes
I read on a gardening blog that one person described this plant as a "largish semi-dwarf". As with many plant descriptions, they rate the plant much smaller than it will reach. I have observed mature Baby Blue Eyes over 20 feet tall with a spread of 1/2 to 3/4 the height.
