ASM Modes of the Black Arts Movement Online Open House

A historical exploration into the music and other kinds of arts, inspired by the Civil Rights Movement ONLINE OPEN HOUSE Oct 05, 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM

Afropop is happy to promote an online course for those Afropoppers wanting to take a deeper dive and explore one of the greatest cultural movements of the 20th century, The Black Arts Movement 1965 – 1972.

The benchmark for the beginning of BAM, began with the assassination of El Hajj Malik also known as Malcolm X also known as Malcolm Little. This event marked the emergence of all modes of art: poets, photography, activists, theorist, painters, dancers, dramatists, publishers, schools, theatres, and of course the “ mugicians “ , supernatural musicians who carried the Message of oppressed people throughout the globe through new notes of Blackness.

There was no separation between the crescendo voices of people who were tired of what they endured on multiple layers. People who made their voices heard. The music will be our primary focus. However, music was but one of the many modes of The Black Arts Movement. We will attempt to recognize those modes as we seek to explore the rhythms of protest through sonic exploration.
