Photograph rolling lavender fields and the iconic white horses in the South of France

In the summer months, the fields of Provence are painted with rich palettes of blooming lavender and sunflowers. We will meander through the aromas and visit many small, castle-like towns, intimate alleys, and endless fields of color. You’ll also be photographing romantic images of the Camargue horses galloping through the marshes, driven by their gardians (Camargue cowboys).

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive at Montpellier Airport

Arrive at Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport (MPL) before 2:00 PM on this day. Air travel delays are possible, so please consider arriving early, possibly the day prior. We don't want you to miss out on trip activities. Airport transfer is included on arrival.

We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to our charming hotel in Aigues-Mortes, with time to unwind and unpack. Tonight, we will have a welcome briefing at the hotel.

  • Day 2: Flamingos and Black Bulls

We leave before dawn for the Parc Ornithologique, a natural Camargue wetlands area with one of Europe’s most extensive arrays of birdlife, including the famous pink flamingos. Our local contacts provide access to the park before sunrise and before it opens to the public, so you can capture fantastic, exclusive images as the birds fly in at sunrise. We will guide you to the prime locations, among the waterways and lakes, to capture a variety of species, from single birds perched at the nest to large flocks of pink Greater Flamingos.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Camargue bulls as they thunder through the shallow waters of marshland, with their horns held high, as the gardians herd them on horseback – a unique and thrilling photographic experience.

  • Day 3: Camargue Horses

We head to the beach in the morning for your first photoshoot with a beautiful white Camargue stallion. We will photograph him rearing on the top of the sand dunes and running along the golden sand of the beach, making for striking action shots and beautiful portraits.

We photograph the white horses running through the marsh late in the afternoon. We shoot several drives with the horses running across and towards your field of view. We will also take shots of the gardians (Camargue cowboys) dressed in traditional Camargue shirts & hats, trident in hand, surrounded by the herd, and some close-up portraits of the horses and the ranchers.

  • Day 4: Camargue Horses

At sunrise, we have another session with the horses, running together through the shallow waters of the lakes, with a different composition and location than the previous day. In between the action, we take portraits and close-ups of the horses alone or in small groups.

Late in the afternoon, we head to the beach for the ultimate spectacle of the wild white horses running along the golden sand and through the surf, with sea spray flying. We shoot several drives in different directions so that you can capture an assortment of action pictures with various lighting conditions. There will also be another opportunity to photograph the gardians and the horses.

  • Day 5: Transfer to Luberon Valley

We start with a relaxed morning to download your photos for our group image review. We will then check out of the hotel to depart for the Luberon early in the afternoon (approx. 2-hour drive). The Luberon is dotted with strikingly picturesque hilltop villages dating back at least 1000 years.

We will check in to the hotel and take time to unwind and unpack. In the late afternoon, we photograph the first of many beautiful Luberon villages, with the warm sunshine lighting up the ochre stone colors.

  • Day 6: Villages and Lavender

We depart early to capture some of the most beautiful Luberon villages at sunrise and in the soft morning light.

Late in the afternoon, we set off again to photograph different villages and lavender fields, offering you various landscapes. We also explore the narrow streets of the villages with their photogenic shutters and doors.

  • Day 7: Lavender and Ancient Stone Structures

Today, we will photograph more villages and lavender fields. You can obtain many images, including perched villages at sunrise and sunset, some with lavender stretching out before them, and others with beautiful views across the valley floor with a patchwork of orchards and vineyards.

We also photograph a beautiful, still-working 12th-century abbey in a sublime, solitary setting, surrounded by lavender fields, one of Provence’s most iconic sights.

  • Day 8: Villages in Provence

We’ll head out for our last sunrise shoot of a quaint village, with the sun warming the ochre-red colors. Afterward, we have breakfast at the hotel before checking out and heading for Provence late in the morning.

We will check into our hotel and take time to unwind and unpack.
In the late afternoon, we set off for a shoot in a picturesque village, followed by an early dinner and another shoot of the village, nestled in the hillside, with the lights twinkling at sundown.

  • Day 9–10: Lavender and Sunflowers

We’ll depart before sunrise to photograph lavender fields in the morning light. We’ll seek different views of the lavender, including small stone shepherd’s huts (Mazet) with the mountains as a backdrop.

In the afternoon, we return to capture the beautiful blue lavender and sunflowers – a sight and scent to behold! We end the day when the sun sets over the lavender fields.

  • Day 11: Transfer to Marseilles Airport

We’ll have a relaxed morning for breakfast and one final image review before checking out of the hotel and departing for the Marseille airport. We plan on arriving at the Marseilles airport at approx. 12:00 pm so you can make your mid-afternoon flight home.

Book your departing flight no earlier than 3:00 PM on this day. Airport transfer is included on departure.
