Vancouver Tree App

Great stand by source, helpful in retrieving information right away. Didn’t have some of the trees/shrubs.

Farrar, John Laird. “Trees in Canada” Canadian Journal of Forest Research.

Good source for native plants, interesting facts on a forestry level. VERY helpful, describing all the cones. A bit too in-depth for a general read/heavily botanical language.

N.A. “Guides & Information” Dave’s Garden. N.D. Retrieved from:http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/201192/#b

Surprisingly good source for basic information on trees and shrubs. However, it’s very brief with facts/doesn’t elaborate on information very often.

Work Cited:

I mainly summarized from my notes in class. However, I used the Royal Horticultural Society website for information on Rhododendrons. It was informative and brief. However, it did not include the zones.

Royal Horticultural Society: https://www.rhs.org.uk/

If I could find something, I would default to using the Kwantlen plant database but I mostly wrote down what was discussed from the plant walk.

Citing for week 7-8:

Vancouver Tree App & Dirr, A. Michael “Manual of Woody Landscape Plant”

I’ve used the Tree App before and it is a good go-to source. However, the last few weeks required more investigation into smaller shrubs. So I primarily used the Manual of Woody Landscape Plant book. Rarely did I have to look at a secondary source (and when it was it was the Missouri botanical website) but over all it was pretty comphrensive. However, the organization is odd to navigate. For example, they would clump PJM Rhodo in with all Rhododendrons, So I had to flip back and forth to see what was the general habitat and culture vs the small summary write up.
