The English Yew, a mop-like looking dark green evergreen shrub with fun texture. This award winning shrub of Merit, gives off the perfect Christmas vibe with its deep green needles and bright red berries! People will even use its cut fronds as christmas decoration. Each one of those fronds are covered in green needle clusters with olive-like red berries in a wavy formation.
Because of this plants association with Christmas, they have a direct connection with Christianity, which is why these English Yews are planted all over churchyards!
How to use English Yew in the landscape?
Show off your English Yew in your foundation plantings or use them as hedges and topiary with some fun pruning. These can also be used for short decorative hedges!

How To Plant English Yew
English Yews can tolerate many soil types, but prefer to be planted in well-draining soils. They love full sun to partial shaded conditions. Yews are generally low maintenance and easy to care for.

Yew aren't big water drinkers! When it comes to drought conditions, watering this fella weekly is recommended!
How To Fertilize
Young English Yew plants should be fed each spring, while more mature plants will do well with feeding every other year. We recommend using our very own Elements Starter Plant Food in granular form.
How To Prune
When it comes to pruning yews, for normal upkeep pruning can take place if you like to keep it in a certain shape. A heavy pruning should happen before August 15th, so the branches have time to harden off before the first frost comes.
