Summary
DescriptionJuniperus bermudiana 2.jpg |
English: An old growth Bermuda cedar (Juniperus bermudiana), in a Bermudian garden. With millions having been killed by introduced mites in the 1940s and 1950s, nearly driving the species to extinction, the endemic "cedar" is unable to compete with invasive species that have subsequently spread rapidly. The last bastion of many endemic and native Bermudian species is in gardens, on golf courses, and other intensively managed areas, where their competitors and predators are unable to gain a foothold. |
