Lot No. 329 V

1929 BMW “Dixi” 3/15 hp DA 2 Sunshine Sedan (no reserve)

1929 BMW “Dixi” 3/15 hp DA 2 Sunshine Sedan (no reserve) - Classic Cars

One of the 120 sedans built with a folding roof!

Dixi acquired a license to build the Austin Seven in 1927. From then on, the Model DA featured a laterally inversed engine to convert the vehicle for left-hand drive. DA stands for “Deutsche Ausführung” (German Design). BMW took over Dixi on 1 October 1928, releasing the BMW DA 2 in 1929. The model series was expanded and evolved. Today it represents the dawning of the BMW automobile era.

Oral testimony suggests that this vehicle was delivered to Austria. The oldest document is a notification of individual approval dated January 1951, which registers a Viennese bank employee as the owner. Curiously, the first inspection stamp in this individual approval dates from 2 January 1950! The last stamp is from 1953. The vehicle papers already mention a rolling roof, which suggests it was one of the only 120 ‘sunshine sedans’ ever built. This DA 2 therefore comes with the rarest of all body forms! The BMW was restored by a Dixi collector a long time ago and then added to his own collection. The consignor was able to purchase the BMW some years ago, and he used it mainly as eye candy. Today, the DA 2 still causes jaws to drop in amazement, not least due to its size and power. The vehicle continues to run, offering fascinating insight into the early days of European mass motorisation.
