This plant was labeled 'Glauca nana'. Not so sure about the "nana" part it grows about 8" per year. I believe it resents the salty air close to the beach or maybe the toasty summer night temps. It is planted in Z7. Bought from Triple Oaks in S.NJ. It's been in the ground about 4 years.

    pic is from 10/07

Maybe it's supposed to be this one.

"'Compacta Glauca'. Compact conical habit, branches and twigs short and thick, ascending; needles blue-green outside, inside bluish-white, 8-9 cm long...(= P. cembra compacta glauca den Ouden). Developed before 1949 by C. Frets & Zoon in Boskoop, Holland"

--Krussmann, Manual of Cultivated Conifers, Timber Press

North American Landscape Trees (Jacobson) says of the 'Glauca'

"Described in 1866. Exceedingly rare. Needles silvery-white. Growth slow. See also P. Cembra 'Silver Sheen'"

    under which it says

"Introduced in 1968 by Vermeulen nursery of New Jersey. Listed as P. Cembra 'Glauca' until 1971. Tall, slender, pyramidal form. Silver-blue foliage"

Ya, not sure about the identity. It has great blue/grey color each spring but it's not quite happy where i have it. Clearing out invasive roots gave it a big boost but it's not set a cone yet. Also gets yellow needle tips after summer. As it matures i think it will gain character and form-- it is off to a pretty good start.
