It is a member of the white pine group, Pinus subgenus Strobus, and like all members of that group, the leaves ('needles') are in fascicles (bundles) of five, with a deciduous sheath.Pinus armandii seeds are harvested and sold as pine nuts.It enjoys a mild, cool and humid climate. The annual average temperature in the natural distribution area is mostly below 15 ℃, the annual precipitation is 600-1500mm, and the annual average relative humidity is greater than 70%. It has strong cold resistance. In the north of its distribution area, it can even bear the absolute low temperature of - 3L ℃. It is not resistant to heat and grows poorly in places with long high temperature seasons. It likes good drainage and can adapt to a variety of soils. It is most suitable for deep, humid and loose neutral or slightly acidic loam.
