Common Names: Southwestern White Pine, Mexican White Pine, Border White Pine
Habitat: dry, rocky slopes and canyons in high mountains; eastern Mogollon Rim and southeastern AZ mountains
Cones: 6-9+ inches long, cylindrical, yellow-brown or brown, opening at maturity; scales curved back at the tips.
Description: 50 to 80 foot straight trunk, evergreen, branches somewhat resembling a bottle brush, 5 green or bluish-green needles per bundle, 2.5 to 3.5 inches long; bark is gray and smooth, becoming dark gray or brown and deeply furrowed with age.
Comments: a minor member of coniferous forests, has very large cones
