Recorded from the Russian Far East: from the Zeya River to the Sikhote Alin Range; NE China: Manchuria, Shaanxi, south to Hebei (Wutai Shan); North Korea. In some interpretations it will occur in South Korea.
Needles 1/2"- 1" long, lustrous dark green above, silvery white below.
Cones cylindrical slender, dark purple, 2"-2 1/2" long. Tree very beautiful when young. 80- 100' tall, 3-4' wide.
The botanical name comes from the cone scales which are kidney shaped.
