Japanese White Pine Bergman A rather beautiful, dwarf Japanese white pine originating in Pennsylvania, Pinus parviflora Bergman is a medium-sized, slow-growing (about 6”/15cm per year), evergreen shrub with a multi-stemmed, upright but spreading, irregular habit, giving an architectural quality to the smaller garden. The long, blue-green needles are twisted in a very attractive way, and are whitish on the inner surface. It has beautiful, red, male pollen-cones in spring. There are four distinct forms of this shrub, depending on which rootstock it is grafted. Japanese white pine Bergman prefers a cool summer climate.
