We came here for the open house, it has been a few years since Argonne hosted one of these events. We had a pretty easy time getting onsite through the normal security requirements.

The lab overall is enormous, we had a hard time deciding what to check out. We saw a ton of different science experiments going on at the lab. The APS was super cool, they had an accelerator under a building which was amazing. I didn't expect to see so many interesting things. The places to visit seemed to never end.

Definitely recommend visiting when they have an open house, visitors are not allowed normally as they are on Fermilab. Super cool place!

Really well-respected name in science, one of seventeen US National Laboratories. The campus is vast and pretty cool if you're a huge nerd like me. However, the funding discrepancies are pretty clear. The projects that are deemed more "profitable" have better facilites, which makes a certain amount of sense, but is still something to be aware of if your job isn't scientific per se.

Recently built buildings like Energy Science and Theoretical Computing are absolutely gorgeous and modern, in contrast to some of the more drab administrative buildings which have been around forever.

They take safety extremely seriously here at Argonne, which is definitely commendable and reasonable, but a little annoying to me personally.

The one problem with working at Argonne is that it operates like an old company. There's a lot of stuff to do if you know where to look, but I'm not sure the culture promotes collaboration as well as I believe most places should today. Also, diversity is still something the lab struggles with and is actively working on.

They do have a nice cafeteria and a pretty decent gym here though, as well as a beautiful forest preserve, a bikeshare program, plenty of parking, and easy highway access.

Was quite surprised to find this place on Yelp. As a bit of a nerd, I was very excited to visit a particle accelerated. I learned a lot on how they how they function while during my visit. They have a nice visitors center with plenty of information.

I was very lucky to have a behind the scenes tour. There are 35 beam lines, which where particles (I believe photon in this case) exit the ring. Each beam line has a different group performing a different experiment. Last year scientists working on the accelerator performed some 5,000 experiments and published 1,700 articles. They are doing serious work here!

This place shouldn't exist. If you visit it, and tell your friends what you have acutally seen, they _will_ look at you weird. They do things here that people just don't do. And that's why other people who need to do these things come from all over the world to use their stuff -- for free! Yea, it's a research thing, but nevertheless there are some corporate collusions which have brought us everything from better nylon to better medicine (better being quantitative, not necessarily qualitative). Anyhow, they give out tours, and our tour guide, Daniel West, was very helpful, if not a bit romantic, about the physics lab of ATLAS and the advanced photon source. Both of which I'm not sure exactly what they do but it has to do with things vibrating and moving real fast.

I would have never thought this place would be on Yelp, but since its here to rate... Its a great place to do X-Ray Crystallography because the X-Ray source is so powerful that you can collect data faster than any regular source. There are only a few places like this in the country. The facilities are nice and the science is even better.

Is a great place to work when you are young. But heed my warning...bale out before you get in your 50's because you are a target to get RIF'd and you will. Management is terrible and clueless of whats happening outside Bldg. 201- could be an amusement park for all they know. A whole bunch of cliques throughout the Lab which everyone of them is protecting their turf. A lot of areas are showcased because they are newer, not so though if you wander a little bit.
