In the spring, this rare cultivar is covered in purple-red new growth that is striking overtop of the older green growth. 'Rubra Spicata' may reach 10-12 ft in height in 10 years with an open habit. 'Rubra Spicata' was found in Czechoslovakia in the 1970's.
