The Volkswagen Corrado didn't sell that well when it was new, and many were modified over time, making clean examples hard to find today. That's why this near-mint 1994 Corrado VR6 is so damn special. Seriously, when's the last time you saw one this nice?

Matt Farah over at The Smoking Tire just found out that it drives as well as it looks, thanks to its rev-happy, 220-hp VR6 and some choice mods installed by its owner. The Corrado VR6 makes as much power as a current GTI, but in a package that only weighs around 2700 pounds.

This Corrado's former owner installed a front limited-slip differential, adjustable coilovers and new suspension bushings. As Farah finds, these mods give the VR6 excellent handling. Couple that with a lovely sounding, naturally aspirated engine, and clean styling, and you've got an incredible sport compact.

It's not all that cheap, however. The previous owner listed it for sale a few months ago with a $24,000 asking price. That's nearly as much as a new BRZ, but unlike the Subaru, you probably won't see another one of these at your local car meet.
