CASPER, Wyo. — The rock band The Goo Goo Dolls will play the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper later this year.

According to a release on Monday morning, the concert is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16 starting at 8 p.m. The Los Angeles–based indie pop and neo-soul act Fitz and the Tantrums will open.

Tickets go on sale this Friday starting at 10 a.m.

According to Top40Charts.com, the Goo Goo Dolls have had 19 top 10 singles on various charts and have sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.

The Goo Goo Dolls formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1986 and found regional success as a power punk band. They eventually adopted a more mainstream pop sound with their 1995 major label release “A Boy Named Goo,” which included the wildly successful ballad “Name.”

The band’s chart successes continued with the inclusion of the song “Iris” on the hit movie soundtrack “City of Angels” and with the band’s follow-up album “Dizzy Up the Girl,” which included radio staples “Slide,” “Black Balloon,” and “Dizzy.” A cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit” was another major radio hit from that era.

The core band has consisted of guitarist/vocalist John Rzeznik, and bassist vocalist Robby Takac since its formation. Original drummer George Tutuska left after royalty disputes just before the band’s peak commercial success, according to Wikipedia. They tour with a regular group of touring musicians.

The band’s summer tour supporting last year’s release of the album “Chaos in Bloom” kicks off in July, with stops in Kansas, Colorado and Utah in late August. They will play in Billings on Sept. 15 before heading to Caper, according to the news release.
