Watch Out For Deer: Plainfield Police
Plainfield police say there's already been a deer vs. car crash in the village.
PLAINFIELD, IL — Plainfield police are warning drivers to watch out for deer, especially in the early morning hours when they're most active. Last month, police in Palos Park issued a similar warning, saying fall is mating season for deer, meaning a higher risk of deer out on the roads.
In 2017, the deer population in Illinois was 660,000, and it is estimated to be the same or slightly higher in 2018, police said. According to a study by State Farm, your odds of hitting a deer in Illinois are one in 200.
"Plainfield already had a car vs deer crash near Rt. 30 and 135th St.," police said on Facebook, issuing a set of tips for driving safe during deer season:
