Description: A large evergreen conifer tree, growing up to 30 metres in a conical shape. Known for its sharp spiked foliage that is coloured a subtle silver-green.

Origin: The Himalayas.

Cultural notes: Full sun is best, though this cedar can withstand partial shade. It prefers milder climates with slight humidity. Mulching in the summer can help keep the tree’s roots cool. No pruning is required for this tree.

Tolerates: Wind tolerant and frost hardy. After establishment, this tree can become somewhat drought resistant.

Flowering type and season: A monoecious species, meaning they produce both male and female flowers or cones on the same tree. Cones are produced in spring and summer.

Foliage type and colour: Long spikes with a silver-green tinge droop down from the branch.

Soil type: Well-draining loam soil with an acidic pH is preferred.

Width: Up to 6m

Height: Up to 30m

Recommended uses: Parklands or larger gardens are ideal given the size of the tree.
