David Hasselhoff is an actor, singer and producer, who is sometimes called "The Hoff." He is best known for his TV roles in “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch.”
Hasselhoff caught the acting bug as child community theater performer and took acting, singing and dancing lessons through high school. In 1975, he was cast in “The Young and the Restless,” a role he held until 1982 when he left to star in the NBC prime time series “Knight Rider.” The show was a hit, and Hasselhoff became an international superstar.
After “Knight Rider” was canceled, Hasselhoff hit a TV slump, so he returned to his musical roots and signed with CBS Epic Records. Although the album was a flop in the United States, it succeeded in Europe, where he became a pop star and toured for several months.
Although Hasselhoff first turned down “Baywatch,” he changed his mind and joined the series, which premiered in 1989. When it was canceled after only one season, Hasselhoff invested his own money to revive it in syndication. That incarnation of “Baywatch” aired for 10 seasons. Most recently, Hasselhoff has appeared on “America’s Got Talent” as a judge.
In recent years, Hasselhoff’s life off-camera has attracted more attention than his professional ventures. In 2006, he announced he was divorcing Pamela Bach, whom he had married in 1989 and was the mother of his two daughters. Their divorce was messy and was covered by the tabloids. In 2007, a home video taken by his daughter of him in a drunken stupor on a hotel floor surfaced on the Internet, calling attention to his admitted ongoing problems with alcohol. In 2009, he was hospitalized three times in alcohol-related incidents.
In January 2010, Hasselhoff announced he was leaving “America’s Got Talent” to star in his own reality show.
