Cryptomeria japonica 'Compressa' (also known as Borodo or Borodo-sugi) is a broad, blobose, very dense and robust dwarf selection of Japanese cedar. It's structure is comprised of numerous, small protruding leaders terminating in rosettes of reflective, glossy dark green needles. In winter, the foliage turns a distinctive red-brown. Typical rate of growth in most areas in around 1.5 inches (4 cm) a year resulting in a irregular globe, 15 inches (40 cm) tall and wide after 10 years in the garden.
