Podocarpaceae

Podocarpus macrophyllus var. maki Siebold & Zucc.

A widely distributed lower montane species whosehabitat is likely to have been significantly reduced. Lack of accurate information about the decline and its abundance means that it has been assessed as Near Threatened.

Conservation Status

There is a continuous decline in area of occupancy (AOO), area, extent and/or quality of habitat, but there are insufficient data on distribution available to estimate the size of the AOO with any level of confidence, given the very large extent of occurrence. As forests become more patchy, isolation of subpopulations increases. More data on distribution are needed, but meanwhile it is appropriate to flag this

less common variety as Near Threatened (almost qualifies for listing as threatened under criterion B2ab(iii))
