Diagnosis. Body relatively large (TL 4.5–5.3 mm), light brown to brown, head and pronotum usually a tone darker than elytra, setation of elytra adherent. Externally resembling A. castanea but pronotum of females with sparse punctation in basal half, elytra of females often yellowish and contrasting with dark brown pronotum and head. Penis moderately elongated, trigonium relatively wide, with rounded apex and parallel sides, as long as parameroids; pala slightly shorter than parameroids. Bursal sclerite long, with hooked processes in central portion.

Redescription. Male. Body elongated, moderate to large (TL 4.5–5.3 mm), moderately convex. Body brown, elytra often lighter than head and pronotum. Punctation on head and pronotum granulate, strong and dense, punctures doughnut-shaped, touching each other, punctation on elytra simple, punctures separated by 0.5–1.0× diameter of a puncture. Body covered with relatively short setae, semi-erect on head and pronotum, and adherent on elytra. Supraantennal ridges well-marked, elevated. Pronotum widest in anterior 1/3, sides curved, anterolateral angles slightly produced, posterolateral angles slightly obtuse. Elytra without carinae, humeri well-marked. Ventrite 5 rounded, with triangularly rounded apex. Penis (L 0.68 mm, W 0.29 mm) moderately elongated, trigonium narrow, rectangular, with rounded apex and parallel sides, as long as or slightly longer than parameroids; parameroids elongated, apices pointing outwards, covered with numerous punctures, inner edge slightly irregular; pala triangular, about the same length as parameroids. Tegmen (L 0.59 mm, W 0.33 mm) moderately wide, parameres slightly tapered, with scarce punctures and very few delicate setae on the inner edge.

Female. Body moderate to large (TL 4.5–5.2 mm), elongate, moderately convex, macropterous. Body brown, head and pronotum darker, elytra contrasting yellowish-brown, legs and antenna lighter. Supraantennal ridges wellmarked, slightly elevated triangularly above bases of antennae. Pronotum with peculiar punctation—punctures in basal portion sparse, punctures separated by 2.0× diameter of a puncture, interspaces glabrous, remaining areas of pronotum covered with coarse, granulate punctures. Anterolateral angles of pronotum more produced than in males, triangular. Elytra covered with very short, adherent setae, distinctly shorter than in males, not reaching next puncture, punctation of elytra coarser than in males. Ventrite 5 rounded, with triangularly emarginated apex. Lateral portions of ventrites 3 and 4 with small, oval setal patches. Bursal sclerite long (L 0.40 mm), anterior and posterior portion with two subparallel rod-like structures, central portion subtriangular, with well visible hooked projections on sides.

Measurements and ratios. Males (n = 10) TL 4.50–5.30 mm (4.98 mm), PL 0.75–0.90 mm (0.86 mm), PW 1.25–1.45 mm (1.39 mm), EL 3.75–4.50 mm (4.16 mm), EW 1.95–2.40 mm (2.15 mm), TL/EW 2.21–2.38 (2.32), PW/PL 1.53–1.73 (1.62), EL/EW 1.86–2.00 (1.93), EL/PL 4.41–5.29 (4.87), EW/PW 1.48–1.68 (1.55). Distribution. Widely distributed in North Island, common in Northland and Auckland areas, less common in Coromandel, Waikato, and Wellington areas ( Fig. 18J View FIGURE 18 ).
