The Weinstein Co. has released the first trailer for its docu “Salinger,” the highly talked about  film that chronicles the very private life of reclusive author J.D. Salinger.

Shane Salerno directed the film that took eight years for him to film and more than $2 million of his own money.

The trailer features interviews from people such as Martin Sheen and Robert Towne and covers everything from Salinger’s tour of duty in World War II to his various love affairs. It also touches on the work he was doing after he stopped publishing his writing in 1965.

The Weinsteins paid top dollar when they acquired the doc on the morning of the Academy Awards and it will be something they obviously push come awards season.

Movie theaters have already featuring the posters for the film and the pic is being sold more like a tentpole event feature than a regular documentary. Given that not much has been done about the writer, it makes sense that the Weinsteins are giving the pic so much love.

The film bows on Sept. 6.
