Since 2006, the Eudora Welty House & Garden has been open to the public as an author's house museum. Visitors can explore the house and garden, gaining insight into Welty's life and work. The museum offers a unique opportunity to experience the environment that inspired many of Welty's stories.
The Education and Visitors Center, opened in 2009, is located next door to the Eudora Welty House at 1109 Pinehurst Street. Here, visitors can purchase tickets for a tour of the Welty House, view a selection of Welty's literary awards, and explore exhibits based on her memoir, 'One Writer's Beginnings'. The center provides a comprehensive introduction to Welty's life and work.
The garden, designed by Eudora Welty's mother, Chestina Welty, in 1925, is a key attraction for visitors. It features a rose garden, a woodland garden, and a collection of camellia flowers. Visitors have the opportunity to tour and explore the diverse species of flowers in the garden, many of which are referenced in Welty's writing. The garden provides a beautiful and serene backdrop to the historic house.
