Former Packers WR James Jones officially announces his retirement

On Wednesday, a long-time Green Bay Packers player officially hung up his cleats. Wide receiver James Jones, who played for the Packers during eight of his nine seasons in the NFL, announced that he is retiring in a post in a blog post today.

Jones started his career as a third-round draft pick out of San Jose State and became both a steady contributor and a big-play receiver for the Packers. Jones thanked several members of the Packers organization in his statement:

I have truly been blessed to have worked with such wonderful people throughout my career. I would personally like to thank the entire Packers Organization, Packer Nation and particularly Ted Thompson, Mike McCarthy and Sammy Seal (sic).

Following some other former Packers, Jones says that he intends to go into broadcasting now that football is over, joining the NFL Network. He has been a frequent guest on various NFL Network shows during the past few months.

In his nine years, Jones caught 433 passes for 5,861 yards and 51 touchdowns; of those totals, 360 receptions, 5,195 yards, and 45 scores came while wearing Green and Gold. He was of course a member of the Packers’ Super Bowl-winning 2010 team, and he caught five passes for 50 yards in Super Bowl XLV.

Packers fans will also fondly remember Jones for donning a hoodie underneath his jersey during his return engagement with the Packers during the 2015 season. That year, he posted his highest yards-per-catch average, with 890 yards on 50 receptions equating out to a 17.8 average.
