Product Description

Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Tree Seeds Metasequoia glyptostroboides, the Dawn Redwood, is a fast-growing, critically endangered deciduous conifer tree, sole living species of the genus Metasequoia, and one of three species of conifers known as redwoods. It is native to theSichuan-Hubei region of China. Although shortest of the redwoods, it grows to at least 200 ft (61 m) in height. Local villagers refer to the original tree from which most others derive as Shui-sa, or "water fir," which is part of a local shrine. Since that tree's rediscovery in 1943, the Dawn Redwood has become a popular ornamental tree in parks and gardens worldwide.

Exceedingly good germination. I'd say 60-70%.

Exceedingly good germination. I'd say 60-70%.
Will buy again.I grow unique trees from seed and sell them. I normally have a supplier for Dawn seeds and buy them by the ounce. Ill normally get about a 50% germination rate. Which I consider very good for mass germination.I've purchased here a long time ago and it was a dud. This time around, perhaps because I've learned a lot, it was a massive success! How I germinate:-Put seeds in tap water, add as much hydrogen peroxide as you want to the mix.-Next day separate the floaters from the sinkers. (The floaters tend not to germinate, I believe this has to do with water not reaching inside well enough to jumpstart the process. Not a rule, just an observation).-place on paper towel (make sure it's moist) between two paper plates, spread a new potting soil over it.-I spray the top of this mix with micronized sulfur to inhibit fungus and bacteria (up to you).-Place in such a way air is allowed to naturally move by it at between 65-80° (hotter requires more attention)-occassionally mist with water, make sure mixture isn't drying up (soak occasionally if so).-Do not immediately harvest, wait until they are about 1 inch and be careful removing if they rooted in paper towel (soak it if they did, they will come out).Sometimes you just won't win, but for like 20$ this is a good deal. I'll be back for more!I hope the seller of these seeds doesn't mind, but I have a Facebook page named "Rochester Redwoods". You can always send me a message over there if you need advice, run into problems germinating or want to share pics of Redwoods.

Dawn redwoods are supposed to require cold-stratification, but there are a THOUSAND seeds in the package. So I figured, to heck with it: I'm doing literally nothing fancy or special. I scattered them in the pots of some other plants I actually cared about, because why not. Lo and behold, I have dozens of baby seedlings now. Not a thousand, but what the heck would I do with a thousand of one of the world's largest species of tree? A dozen is fine, thanks. Cost-effective and easy. (If you really want all 1,000 trees, then I guess you have to germinate them the fancy proper way.)

I’m not too sure what I expected but this wasn’t it, I used them as baby shower goodies and out them into s little envelope with a sticker that said “help build baby’s hundred acre woods” I was able to put about 12 seeds in each envelope. I will say that the directions that came with the seeds are perfectly clear and also the website where the seeds come from is on the packaging as well.

-place on paper towel (make sure it's moist) between two paper plates, spread a new potting soil over it.
-I spray the top of this mix with micronized sulfur to inhibit fungus and bacteria (up to you).
-Place in such a way air is allowed to naturally move by it at between 65-80° (hotter requires more attention)
-occassionally mist with water, make sure mixture isn't drying up (soak occasionally if so).
-Do not immediately harvest, wait until they are about 1 inch and be careful removing if they rooted in paper towel (soak it if they did, they will come out).

So far I have used about 1/2 of the seeds. I’ve gotten close to a 70% germination rate so far and right now soon I will have hundreds of Dawn redwoods! Super happy with this seller and the seeds. Even the seeds that floated germinated. I did let them soak for 3 days rather then 1 and then left them in a moist paper towel on a plate with press and seal over the top for 4 days in the fridge. Took them out and left them in a drawer for another 4 and seeds were well on their way! These are great seeds and a quality seller.

Followed George Maier’s YouTube video on Giant Sequoia and now have over 300 tree seedlings! I soaked them for 24 hours, placed them in the fridge in a moist paper towel in a Ziplock bag for 14 days. I then took them out placed them on another moist paper towel in a Tupperware container. I put the clear Tupperware container on a shaded shelf and had seeds germinating in 4 days. I’d definitely buy more seeds if I had more room.
