Prince of Persia is set in a land rooted in ancient Persian mythology, with the Prince finding himself caught in an epic battle between the primal forces of light and darkness—the god of Light, Ormazd versus his brother Ahriman, the destructive god of Darkness. The Prince arrives just in time to witness the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life, an act which threatens to plunge the entire world into eternal darkness. Manifested in the form of 'the Corruption,' a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies, the Prince must partner with his new deadly companion Elika to heal the world from the evil Corruption.

A Frightening New Enemy and a Powerful Ally
As Ahriman, the god of Darkness is released so are his minions of monstrous slaves. The most dangerous and powerful set against the Prince is known as "the Hunter." Once a human prince himself, the Hunter was raised in opulent decadence and detached from the day-to-day world. His only passion was for the drama and brutality of the hunt, but soon passion grew to obsession. After killing every variety of beast known, he grew bored and too bold. Recognizing an opportunity Ahriman appeared to him and offered a bargain, a hunt against the most dangerous beasts the world has to offer in return for his soul. Foolishly he accepted and was transformed from man into demonic beast and was hunted by men from all over the world. His all-consuming rage made easy work of the hunters set against him, but also bound him to Ahriman for eternity.

But wherever there is evil, there is also a counter balance to it. Following the defeat and imprisonment of Ahriman, his brother Ormazd, the god of Light, left the world in the care of his servants, the Ahuras, guardians of the tree of life. The Prince’s new ally, Elika, is one of those guardians. Beautiful and mysterious she is a powerful AI companion who accompanies players throughout the game. Filled with an unknown power, she will be helpful in all aspects of gameplay, including acrobatics, combat and puzzle-solving as players quest to rid the land from Ahriman's corruption.

Key Features:
  • A New Hero Emerges - Master the acrobatics, strategy and fighting tactics of the most agile warrior of all time. Grip fall down the face of a building, perform perfectly timed acrobatic combinations, and swing over canyons, buildings and anything that is reachable. This new rogue warrior must utilize all of his new skills, along with a whole new combat system, to battle Ahriman’s corrupted lieutenants to heal the land from the dark Corruption and restore the light.
  • A New Epic Journey Begins - Escape to the new fantasy world of ancient Persia. Masterful storytelling and sprawling environments deliver to action-adventure fans an experience that rivals even the best Hollywood movies.
  • A New Open World Structure - A first for the Prince of Persia franchise – now you have the freedom to determine how the game evolves in this non-linear adventure. Players will decide how they unfold the storyline by choosing their path in the open-ended world.
  • Emergence of a Deadly New Ally - History’s greatest ally is revealed in the form of Elika, a dynamic AI companion who joins the Prince in his fight to save the world. Gifted with magical powers, she interacts with the player in combat, acrobatics and puzzle-solving, enabling the Prince to reach new heights of deadly high-flying artistry through special duo acrobatic moves or devastating fighting combo attacks.
  • Next-Gen Engine - The franchise’s debut on next-generation consoles utilizes Ubisoft’s proprietary Anvil engine, the same engine used to develop Assassins Creed.
A Franchise With History
The critically acclaimed
Prince of Persia franchise returns for the first time on next-generation platforms with an all-new epic journey. Prince of Persia is one of the top 3rd person games I've played. Combining platforming with timing and counter based combat system, Prince of Persia is a thrill to play.

The Environments and visual style is excellent. The game is simply beautiful. The game came out in 2008, I purchased a couple weeks ago in 2010 and the game looks absolutely fantastic. I was blown away by the colorful environments and the overall intuitiveness of those environments.

The camera is flawless. Rarely was there a time when the camera was in my way and obstructed my view. There are also times when the camera is forced to move around rather quickly through the various plates and it swings around perfectly every time.

The story is nothing short of greatness. At first I wasn't really attached to the story but as the game progressed I really began to care about the world and characters. The Prince (who's not really a prince and doesn't have a name I don't think) is quick witted and sarcastic but surprisingly real in his comments. Elika, the Princess, is the perfect compliment to him as they quip back and forth in a humorous yet genuine and serious way. And as they start to grow on each other, they start to grow on you. Great stories in games in my opinion have the "oh hell naw!" moment. That's the moment where something happens, usually bad, and you say "oh hell naw" and then make it a point to "avenge" or "correct" the disrespect. That happened twice in this game.

The characters animations are seamless whether crawling on roofs, running on walls, swinging, sliding, jumping or climbing, they are agile and fluid.

People complain about the ease of the game. The game isn't hard but it's challenging if that makes sense. Pretty much the animations take care of themselves in combat and platforming. Elika is there to help you double jump. However lining up jumps, timing wall running, timing attacks and blocks etc require that you have to at least pay attention to what you're doing or meet doom.

Speaking of doom, there's no dying in the traditional sense. You die, but you don't DIE if you catch my drift. No matter what happens Elika always "saves" you. So if you jump off a cliff Elika will grab you and return you to the previous checkpoint. Or if a boss "kills" you Elika will shine some light on them to get them off you and the boss' energy will be restored. So you do die...it just doesn't stop the gameplay. It eliminates the load screen and a war quote (as in Call of Duty) or Joker making fun of you (Batman Arkham Asylum) etc. Arkham Asylum has a similar mechanism with the grapple hook and some other games have that type of thing as well.

It's Open World in that you can go anywhere right off the bat but you have to collect orbs in order to unlock Elika's powers that help you progress through the game into different areas. You can unlock the powers in any order and the order you do so changes the experience in environments. Each "boss" releases a different type of corruption into the world. So if you choose a different power to unlock first, traversing the world will be different than if you chose a different power. For example depending on what power you unlock, platforming in a corrupted area may or may not have flying, moving, or reaching corruption to get you. It's hard to explain but if you play the game you'll understand it easier.

Prince of Persia is fun. You spend a lot of time platforming and engaging in story but the story is gripping, characters are interesting, and the world is well designed and looks great. I would easily recommend this game and I'm upset I didn't catch on earlier. I really hope there's a sequel to this game because we do sorta have a cliffhanger ending. I do understand there is DLC for this game and I plan on getting that in the near future. Anyways this game is highly recommended. 5 stars.

I had owned this game a couple of years ago, but sold it. I recently purchased it again so my son could have a non-violent platform game that was fun, and I thought it would fit the bill. Now I realize that this game's design was totally lost on me the first time around, and I think I play it more than my son. This has now become one of my favorite games of all time. I will provide a list of reasons, and then a list of negative aspects about the game. In other words, a pros and cons list. I must tell you from the onset that this is a casual game. There are few enemies. It is 90% platforming, in a beautiful, artistic fantasy world. I think that is what the game tries to be, and it succeeds. This is not "Sands of Time." All of the hack and slash elements of that game have been completely forgone here.

PROS:
- The best level design I've seen in a game: Each world has its subsections, but all section of each entire world are completely visible, no matter where you are. It is beautiful. There is nothing like platforming for ten minutes, then looking back at the beautiful section you just came from and thinking, "I was there."

- Artistic design: The watercolor effect solidifies the artistic mood of the entire game.

- Great map system: I am too old to enjoy tons of backtracking or trying to find my place. Others have said the system where Elika (the pricess) points you exactly where you need to go is too simplistic. Perhaps they enjoy getting lost. I don't, and I have limited time to play video games these days, so I appreciate the system that is in place. I am an adult with a family and a life. I need the help. You can also transport between "healed" lands.

- Kid friendly: It is nice to have a game that I can play in front of my kids that isn't a port from a kids movie or part of the Lego franchise.

- Sense of scale: This game feels huge. Each world is HUGE, and there are four of them. It is something akin to Assassin's Creed, but much more artistically done in a fantasy world.

- The best ending I've seen in a game.

Now for the CONS:

- The writing and voice acting for the prince was horrid. Other's have bemoaned his new jerk-like personality, and I concur. Not only is it bad, the voice actor is bad at pulling it off. I think the writers were going for more of a wise-cracking young guy, but he just comes across as annoying.

- The boss battles really do suck. They are far too redundant, and pretty much amount to chaining the same attacks together over and over, with some quick-time elements thrown in. Luckily, these battles are only a small part of the game.

At this game's current price of sixteen dollars, it is really a no-brainer for those who enjoy stress-free gaming in a surreal environment. I fully recommend it. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
