It’s a medium-sized, evergreen shrub of narrowly columnar habit, leathery, needle-like dark green leaves, and inconspicuous flowers followed by red, berry-like fruits. Irish Yew ‘Fastigata Robusta’ grows best in evenly moist, fertile, sandy, loamy, well-drained soils in full sun, partial shade and full shade. It is very resistant to frost and wind. Tolerant of exposed positions and urban pollution. It doesn’t like temperature extremes, and need protection from harsh winter winds. Low maintenance plant, doesn’t require pruning, but can be trimmed if needed. It may lose slim habit if its top is cut off.
