Giant redwoods are indigenous to the western slopes of the Sierra Navada in California, where they grow naturally in monumental groves. The name Sequoiadendron comes from the 19th-century Cherokee linguist Sequojah. Its Victorian name, ‘Wellingtonia,’ was acquired following the death of the Duke of Wellington in 1852.

This tree is only suitable for a very large garden, estate or parkland but it can be a great point of interest in large school grounds or as a focal point in a suitable area of public or common land
