Origin: Southern California, from Santa Barbara County to San Diego County, at 2000 to 8000 feet elevation (600-2400 m)

Growth Habits: Evergreen conifer tree, 50 to 100 feet tall (15-30 m), 16-33 feet in spread (5-10 m); heavy layers of cork on the bark; needles, 0.8 to 1.2 inches long (2-3 cm)

Watering Needs: Little or no water when established

Propagation: Seeds


Blooming Habits:
The Bigcone douglas starts producing seeds at about 20 years of age. Mature cones are 4 to 7 inches long (10-18 cm). The winged seeds are large and heavy.
