Iridology is the study of the patterns and colors on the iris, iridology is a controversial practice. The iris is one of the most intricate tissue structures within the human body.
Iridology is mainly used in two ways:
- Holistic medicine: dating back since medical history has been recorded. For centuries in China and India, much attention was given to the study of the iris and its relation to organs of the body. It wasn’t until the 19th century the practice started to be investigated in Europe.
- Biometric technology: iris recognition as used in the field of security and privacy. Like snowflakes the iris is unique it has a distinctive pattern. The chance of two people having the same Irish pattern is one in 1076.
Iridology uses the colors and patterns of an individual’s iris to diagnose health issues in patients. The established medical community has written the studies off as “bunk “or even dangerous. Iridology is not supported by any published studies and is considered pseudoscience to most medical practitioners.

There is some basis that the eyes can show the whole body health of a person. Not just looking at the colors and patterns of the iris, but by looking inside the eye at the vessels, nerves, and connective tissue. These smaller components of the eye can tell the condition of other tissues in the body.
