The Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby music department has a very successful music tradition, which goes back well over 40 years and has ensured that the academy has become one of the country’s leading education establishments for musical opportunity for its students, with a high reputation within the youth music world. The music department is one of the very few left in the country, which still provides free instrumental lessons and operates a Saturday morning music college during term time, where many lessons and rehearsals take place. Both the Showband and Jazz Band from Abraham Darby have participated successfully in the National Concert Band Festival and National Festival of Music for Youth over the past 20 years.
Free music lessons are available at Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby . These are offered to pupils of the academy as well as pupils in our feeder schools who will be attending from Year 7. The majority of these lessons take place on a Saturday morning during Music College. We can take complete care of your child’s musical education throughout his/her school life. If your child does not have an instrument we can provide an instrument to them for an annual fee for £10 per instrument, per annum. Once the instrument has been acquired, with the exception of music accessories (i.e. reeds), everything else is provided free of charge. However, we do require that, should your child reach the necessary standard on their instrument, he/she will attend the Haberdashers’ Abraham Darby bands/ensembles. If you require further information about Music lessons please contact Mrs Collington for further details and an application form or come into school on a Saturday morning.
