Pines are superb trees which grow in a wide climate scale - from cold northern countries to hot coastal sites. They are probably most beautiful in their natural environment.

Aurea is a name for two pine species. This one is Austrian pine with long, stiff needles which are yellow or yellow-green in their first year, and turn green the year after. It grows a bit slower than the green-leaved species pinus nigra. It makes about 20 cm per year and just over 2m in 10 years. Its habit is narrowly pyramidal and if grown in full sun it keeps its bottom branches and quite a nice shape. Still, it is a large conifer in maturity so find it a good location where it will not disturb neighbouring plants in future.

Pines need full sun and well-drained, slightly acid soil. Do not over-water them but make sure they do not dry out after transplanting. Fully hardy to min.-30°C (USDA zone 5) and expected to be much hardier.
