Q:How far apart are you supposed to plant them?
by|Apr 17, 2024
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  This depends on the final look your going for and your time frame. The rule of thumb is 3 - 4' apart, closer together for a tight knit hedge look. Happy gardening!

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello there Larry. Thank you for your wonderful question. The little giant prefers a slightly acidic soil between 6.5 and 8.0, though with proper care, it will grow well in a range of soil types and ph. It typically reached full maturity in approximately 10 years. Please feel free to reach out to us at online@bellnursery.com if we can help in the future. Happy Gardening!

            FALSE ADVERTISING
Details and specs on product page don’t match actual shrub received. Specs say you will receive a shrub the height of 30” and the full grown size will be 48”x48”. What we received are 3 shrubs with the tallest of the three at only 18 1/2” from soil (27” including to base of container). Tags on shrubs say full grown will be 24”-30”. We really needed the 48” height/width falsely advertised. Disappointing experience.

Hello there Rock23. We're sorry to hear about your Little Giant experience. The mature width and height of a little giant arborvitae if 48" x 48", the tag applied is incorrect. Please reach out to us at online@bellnursery.com, we would love to help you further. Happy Gardening!
              Perfect!
When I received my order I was surprised with how great the quality of these plants is! They are super healthy and well shaped. The packaging is absolutely top notch which insured safe travel without broken branches or other damage. The price is very reasonable especially for such excellent quality plants. We will definitely be buying more in the future

              Bell Nursery's Beautiful Little Giant!
I've never received a shrub by delivery before and I am thoroughly impressed!  It was very secure and safe.  This "Little Giant" shrub fits it's name. It's a beautiful bright green color and the leaves are soft to the touch. I haven't planted it yet, because it's been so very cold here and I'm still planning out the backyard tree planting. There is a housing development being put in behind us and they have cut down ALL the trees and shrubs that were there. Unfortunately, they also cut down most of the trees on the fence line as well!  I'm planning out which big trees to get and this Little Giant will be one of the replacements to fill in the spaces lower to the ground.  Now that I know how it looks up close, I will definitely be getting more!

              cute little bush!
The little bush arrived well packaged and nice and green. Because it is still cold where I lived, I took a few days to "harden" my bush. Everyday, I would leave it outside to get some sun and get used to the cold. After a couple of hours I would bring it back indoors. When it came time to plant it outside, the included instructions for planting it was helpful. Once planted, it was smaller than it originally appeared, but looked wonderful. The next day it snowed, so I hope it would be able to survive a freak cold snap.

              Dwarf Arborvitae Little Giant
We chose this evergreen for our front yard to give it some curb appeal. The little giant shrub takes full sun. The shrub grows 24 to 30 inches in height and is low maintenance. This is a very hearty plant they can take temperatures to -40°F. When planting this shrub dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Place the shrub even with the ground surface and fill with half amendments of native soil even with the ground surface. Fertilize upon planting, I used a all purpose fertilizer. Then make sure to water the shrub thoroughly and finish off with a nice layer of mulch around the shrub. Maintain moderate moisture around the plant or watering at least 2 to 3 times a week until established. If planting other shrubs of the same like make sure to space them at least 36 inches apart.

Fantastic Shrub - Healthy - Growing
This Little Giant shrub is a wonderful specimen. Started straight upright in a pot and grown evenly allowing the natural globe shape to grow. Not all nurseries take this much care in starting their shrubs. As a result this Little Giant offers all the promises of growing into a beautiful dwarf globe arborvitae. The overall quality of the shrub is excellent with a root system that is deep and well developed - ready for planting on arrival. It's beautiful here on our mtn homestead, but the challenges of sun and erratic rain makes landscaping very challenging. I've chosen varieties of evergreen that can take these extremes and the Little Giant American Arborvitae fits right in. The Little Giant has been planted in a large container at our front entry at the base of a lantern post near a spiral arborvitae that I've been working on for several years. I plan a dwarf juniper rug in the middle container. The Little Giant in perfect growing sites will reach 4ftH x 4ftW. Yet small dwarf shrubs like this Little Giant can be successfully grown in containers which will stunt growth a bit to about 30in x 30in. Remember container shrubs need to be removed from their pots every few years, replace some fresh soil and prune the roots, replanting the shrub back in the container for another 4-5yrs.

              Aborvitae Little Giant
I'm changing landscaping this spring and I thought this arborvitae would be a good addition. The bush good and healthy. I'll keep it in the sunroom until the ground thaws. The size will not get too big, and I think color will be great. The packaging box that it came in kept it well protected. The plastic pot seems to to be quite adequate for this size plant/bush.

It was securely boxed, and once I opened the box, it proved to be just as lush and green as the picture online! The height of the shrub was 16" from the top to the dirt line in the pot. The overall height, including the root ball and pot, was 26". It's a nice size shrub. I am looking forward to the ground warming up so I can plant it!

              Gorgeous Evergreen Shrub
My gorgeous Little Giant American Arborvitae (Thuja) Evergreen Shrub arrived in perfect condition inside a specially packaged box made for live plants. Not one broken leaf. No spilled soil. The shrub is planted in the container with a very rich, moistened soil. You can see how well the plant is thriving by how perky and upright the branches are growing. This will be a perfect evergreen shrub for the front yard. The leaves are so soft. The movement of the branches in the wind looks so pretty. I love it.

              Knot garden
I was so glad to get this. It almost looks like a dwarf cypress. Very cute. I have a spot I wanted to put a screen and this is a perfect shrub.at four feet by four feet it is a perfect shrub to hide an Hvac system or anything else you'd rather not see. I have already bought two more. It was well packaged. And very healthy root system. Also, ever thought about a knot garden? This would work nicely. I have no doubt I will be getting more.
