The Thuja occidentalis 'Elegantissima' (with cones) is not a T. occidentalis at all, but it is Platycladus orientalis (based on the photo of the cones). The next time you're there, you may want to point that out to them so they can correct the signage.

Likely a mistake for Thuja [Platycladus] orientalis 'Elegantissima'.

As Clement has alluded to (I think!), that Pinus is either not Japanese or not resinosa. One or the other is incorrect.

Sheesh. Great pics, but what's a poor, eager-to-learn gardener supposed to do when even the big guys are tripping on the names!

Most public collections have some gaffs. Some quite a few. It depends on who is in charge of the recording and labeling, how good a job they do. As elsewhere, funding may not be adequate in any particular location.

American Red Pine not Japanese Red Pine is what Clement is alluding to.

Great Hagoromo specimen. This one when grafted can produce compact plants and larger-growing plants that are very much, less-desirable.

Nice looking garden and a wide variety of plants. I really like that stairway that has random plants amongst it, like they fell there in nature.
