'Green Spiral' - Third year in the ground and wildly weeping/spiraling.

'Hedge'

'Kladsko' - New growth seems brighter then most.

Imo the same one as 'Green Spiral'.
Compare this pic with Will's and you will know what I mean...

    Cool Mirek!

Edwin, I'd be very tempted to agree about 'Green Spiral', *especially* based on your photo which is almost identical, right down to the size.

Abies alba 'Pectinata Compacta', which is incorrect, this plant is almost certainly Abies alba 'Compacta'. Pectinata is the old species name for what is now known as Abies alba(abies pectinata before). This info was provided both by online research and Edwin's notes in the 2010 gallery. Given the exact form as 'Compacta' and the fact that Abies alba 'Pectinata Compacta' thus reads something like Abies alba 'Alba Compacta', I conclude this plant was mislabled as such and is correctly written as
    Abies alba 'Compacta'.

Abies alba 'Holden Arboretum W.B.' - Moderate shade, happy still.

'Mlada Boleslav' - Almost looks like Abies balsamea, very light colored.

'Sejna' - Bright green new growth.

Yep, Abies alba is a very nice and healthy species with a big variety of cultivars!

Will, you're right about the "pectinata" thing, it's the old species name for what is now Abies alba.
This is how your's will look like at a later age:
    Abies alba 'Compacta'
    {{gwi:759344}}

Will, your 'Mlada Boleslav' isn't the right one because it's to flat growing.
It's true growing habit is as round as a Dutch football.

Mirek, that 'Marek' does also have another needle setting, just like the 'Schwarzwald', beautiful!

Great specimens, especially those old ones Edwin!

Do you have any idea what my mistaken plant is then? Could heavy shade be a reason for the lack of normal formation?

    A few more.

    'Scarabanta'

    'Hana'

    'Barabit's Star'

    'Compacta' Full sun.

'Pyramidalis' - Trimmed per your suggestion Edwin.

Are there any obvious differences between 'Pyramidalis', 'Columnaris', and 'Compacta'?

They all look fairly similar with an upright, somewhat narrow habit.

I don't know myself for certain Sam but I think 'Pyramidalis' is faster and perhaps more narrow in the long run.

Sam, I never heard about 'Columnaris', but I do know 'Fastigiata' which grows into a real nice column at a later age.
'Pyramidalis' and 'Compacta' does have the same growing habit but the first one grows much faster...

    Abies alba 'Fastigiata'
    {{gwi:759361}}

Will, I unfortunately I can't say anything about your false 'Mlada Boleslav' because conifers in much shadow are reaching for light and show a way differend growing habit.

What I can tell you that you've to change the 'Scarabanta' into to 'Scarabantia' and the 'Barabit's Star' into 'Barabits Star'...

You did some very nice trimming work!

    Thanks Mirek for your answer.
I asked you this because yesterday he and a some friends visited my nursery.

Unfortunately your picture isn't visuable for us...

Here's a shot of my little baby Abies alba 'Schwarzwald'. The nursery who sold me the plant told me that "Schwarzwald' is "synonymous" with 'Badenweiler'. Edwin, you said that it was found by your German friend Guenter Eschrich, do you know the story here?. I assume that 'Schwarzwald' is the correct name since that's what you are using. Please share any information about this lovely cultivar and it's naming woes.

    Hi Alex,

Your suplier was right, the first name was 'Badenweiler' which was later on renamed in 'Schwarzwald'.
I still don't know for what reason he did this, I'll ask him the next time I'll see him.
I see 'Badenweiler' as it's temporary name, the place were he found this broom.

Badenweiler is a little town in the Schwarzwald area, it's situated in western Germany very close to the French border.

I'm very glad that your suplier told you some extra info about this nice witches' broom, for most of them it's just a money thing...

Good luck with your nice specimen!
