A few cultivar pics, just for fun

Pinus strobus 'Golden Candles'. I hate taking pics in bright sun, but this is the only pic I have. I got this a couple of years ago at Gee's, pot bound and not in the greatest shape. I think it's on its way back this year though.

Pinus thunbergii 'Thunderhead'

Pinus jeffreyi 'Joppi'. I love the long needles on this one. This is another one in my "Should be more popular" category. An awesome conifer in my opinion. But you know what they say about opinions :-). In case you're wondering Resin, remarkably that cone on it didn't abort and is still present on the back of it. I'll post a pic if you'd like.

Tsuga canadensis 'Pendula'. I got this bruised and reduced at the end of the season in fall '06, just kind of mulched around the rootball(above ground in a protected spot) that winter and planted it in another spot the following Spring. Last year, it didn't look too hot, but I think it's on its way back. I hope to, through a bit of trimming, have it flow over the rocks below, and create a waterfall/river effect over time.

The simple beauty of a single conifer . Tsuga canadensis 'Cole' (Cole's Prostrate) Weigh in on nomenclature if you'd like.

Finally, here's a side yard pic. I still can't quite figure out what to do with this garden, but I do like the path, and the conifers are doing well.

Nice koraiensis, is it 'Winton'?

I've always called that Tsuga 'Cole's Prostrate'. Also it is referred to 'Cole's Prostrate' in 'List of Conifer Names' and cited as "Gotelli 1929."

Nice Pinus jeffreyi 'Joppi' .....GREAT conifer. Look into and
if you can get it Pinus x schwerieni 'Weithurst Seedling W/B'
Ultra long needles 4 inch to 5 inches. Almost similar not quite. As always great pics.

This is my first post. I have enjoyed all of the pictures I have seen on this forum. I love the pines and hemlocks shown here. Just wanted to say thanks.

I have been gardening for about 15 years. I live in northern West Virginia. About 4 years ago I became interested in conifers especially dwarfs and miniatures. I discovered this forum about two years ago. Alot of good information.

Nice stuff, as always, Dan. Has your 'Joppi' seen any harsh winters? I've been tempted by that one, but have hesitated due to hardiness (not stopped, mind you, just hesitating).

Dax, yes the koraiensis is 'Winton'.

Tj, The last two winters have been pretty tough, with at least brief periods of Zone 5a temps. I think 'Joppi' is listed as Z6 but so far it seems pretty tough. I've had Pinus jeffreyi 'Gold' as well for a few more years and it has done well, but has grown very slowly, which in my case is a good thing. Here's that pic of the P.j. 'Joppi' cone. I thought it was kind of cool.
