I've noticed 'Boulevard' with some sort of blight in my area, you may have the same thing.

I've seen the same syndrome on related forms here. I think it's pathogenic, you may be losing the plant.

Hi Here are some additional photos. The back of the trees do not receive the same amount of sun as the front due to the location and other plants. The light right by the tree is solar, it doesn't produce much heat.

The trees seem to be doing well until a recent amount of heavy rain, could this be a possible cause?

I have a 9 ft Ch.p. 'Boulevard' which looks similar with the orange-brown inner foliage, which is not dry, can not be raked off. It has noon & afternoon sun, is 6 ft away from house, gets watered regularly when dry. This discoloring seemed to have started last year. There is plenty of light reaching the inner foliage.

Is this a fungus or insects? What would I need to spray? I could spray with a fungicide and an insecticide.

Looks normal to me, Sunflower09. Pisiferas are notorious for excessive dieback in the interior of the plant. I like Chamaecyparis, but avoid the pisiferas for that reason. I do have a few filiferas though.

Pisiferas pisifera me off. LOL I had Boulevard and she was a 6' beauty. Now she is some bizarro barely-there pseudo-bonsai that I have created to maintain the few shreds of live material still on the trunk.

So sad b/c it was gorgeous while it lasted! Same story as above...massive die-back and unremovable dead stuff.
