Extremely sharp needles, I think the sharpest of any conifer I've met. If I was rich and wanted a security fense, I'd plant these every 5' and call it good!
There is an interesting specimen growing at Tifton, GA that is a perfect, dense little pyramid. It is 15 years old and has really tolerated the intense heat/humidity and red clay there well. I think I have some photos of it somewhere. I wish I could find seed of this species. I do have P. martinezii, which is doing surpisingly well here.
My 7 foot specimen came from Forestfarm and was purchased as a "tube" size. Seed provenance is purportedly Creel, Chihuahua, Mexico. 'Wished I'd gotten several when I had the chance, Oh well!
Thanks Michael. I suppose I was influenced by the last pic showing 3 large specimens which appear to be wider than they are tall. My question is really a matter of proportion.
