• Shape: Multi-stemmed shrub
• Leaf/Branch Arrangement: Alternate
• Flower: cone, 1/8 inch long, in leaf axils, males oval and yellow, females bud-like and green-brown
• Leaves: evergreen, flat needles, sharp pointed tip, 3/8-1 inch long
• Bark: brown, thin, scaly
• Fruit/Seed: cup-shaped, red berry-like cone
• Height: 1-5 feet
• Flowering: April - May
• Habitat: rich woods, hardwood and conifer forests, swamps, ravines, banks
