HOW OFTEN DO YOU VISUALIZE? I remember one of my days in the university six years ago that was in my 200 level. The ICAN president came to Owerri on a courtesy visit to universities within owerri. The conference was held in my school. All accounting students were asked to dress up in their corporate wears as potential professionals😊 It was really a memorable day. As someone who has always been passionate about my profession it was a big deal for me. That event enabled me to tap into my power of visualization. I remember the ICAN president encouraging us to register for ICAN exams and get qualified. All that went through my mind was a clear picture of me as a chartered accountant. The feeling was so intense that It was as if I have already become one😀. And today that vision has been fulfilled. My friends, as an accountant of your life you are responsible for all things you attract to your life be it good or bad. Visualization is a very powerful tool we can use to do that. Some people often exercise theirs only in negative thoughts and desires, thus having a negative outcome. My friends, utilize yours for the good and enjoy the good outcome. I am here to let you know that their is power in visualization and visualization should be part of us. It is a driving force to achieving our goals. Remember to; Be the accountant of your life✌

Presenting new key member to GTM family: Magdalena Stoeva - Chief Accountant 1. Tell us about your first job. - My first job, which was also previous job, was as accountant and assistant auditor in a Bulgarian accounting and audit firm, which serves more than 400 clients. There I have spent more than 17 years and learned and developed all my skills. I have worked with more than 100 different clients of the company over the years. I passed through more than 3-4 different positions to finally become a manager of the accounting team, assisting the audits for external clients and helping with the annual check-ups of the inner company’s clients. 2. What inspired you to pursue a career in accounting? - Firstly, accounting is a stable profession and I’ve always wanted to have such. I really enjoy solving puzzles and I like to solve problems, also. What inspires me to pursue a career of accounting is that I want things to be well organized and I am a very detailed person, who likes to analyze and work with data, making different kinds of reports, which help people understand the financial part of their business easily. So, I enjoy what accountants do daily and that’s why I have chosen this as a career to grow and develop in. 3. What's the best piece of advice you've ever received, and how has it impacted your career? - Best piece of advice I’ve received is that every hard and new thing you must do is a new skill you can gain and develop. So, never to refuse trying new things in the career is what made me move to a different positions in the accounting field and learn so much about the profession. 4. If you were hosting a dinner party and could invite three people (living or historical figures), who would they be, and what would you talk about? - I would love to have dinner with Pink, Keanu Reevs and Ivet Lalova, because I think they are amazing artists, athletes and people and there is so much to talk about- from their career to their personal life. Maybe I’ll be mostly asking questions because my unfulfilled dream is to become a journalist 😊. 5. How is GTM different from any other company you have worked for in the past? - It is a lot different in every aspect except the friendly and nice people I have to work with. Till now I’ve worked in a company with 20 to max 40 employees during the years, and now the employees are around 180. I was always surrounded only by accountants or payrolls specialist, and now I am pleased to work next to people with different professions. For me the work environment and the people are very important and maybe that’s one of the things which kept me staying in my previous job such a long time. I really like the very nice and friendly environment of GTM’s team, and I am glad to be a part of it.

My eldest nephew, the firstborn of my immediate elder sister, has proven to be a valuable asset to my modest business since I fully integrated him in 2019. His journey took an inspiring turn when, with the assistance of Dr. Sanusi Lafiagi he secured admission to Alhikma University. His most recent semester results were nothing short of impressive, showcasing not only academic excellence but also his pivotal role in introducing organizational structure to my business. He took charge of auditing and accounting controls, to the extent that even I, as the CEO, found myself answering to his prudent oversight, particularly in curbing my spontaneous expenditures. With firsthand exposure to the business realm, labor market dynamics, and technology trends, I encouraged him to pivot towards accounting while continuing to hone his tech skills. Today, the exciting news arrived that he will be graduating as a certified accountant. My motivation for sharing this narrative is to impart a crucial lesson to aspiring undergraduates. It dictate the significance of seeking guidance from professionals, not only in selecting a course aligned with one's interests and strengths but also in navigating the journey to graduation with distinction. This includes acquiring and mastering essential skills before entering the workforce. From choosing a specific career niche to deciding whether or not to undergo the NYSC program, and even understanding how to navigate job offers, the guidance of experienced individuals is invaluable. Without such mentorship, graduates may find themselves adrift, lacking direction and options. Reflecting on our own youthful experiences, I can't help but wish for mentors who could have steered our careers in a more advantageous direction. So, I implore you to be proactive, recognize the importance of seeking firsthand knowledge through collaboration, and refrain from solely relying on your own instincts.

Abdul Kalam Yes, I would not have found the better quote to start this article. It’s been few months since I have started this new journey. Embarking on a journey as a Chartered Accountant is a significant and rewarding step that opens the doors to a challenging yet fulfilling career. Once I qualified as a Chartered Accountant, a myriad of opportunities opened up. Many professionals choose to gain further experience by working in established accounting firms, corporations, or governmental bodies. However, for many of us the ultimate goal is to enter into private practice and we need to be careful in terms planning and strategic decisions. As our decisions of today will significantly impact our future plans and path. Intention was always clear, be independent still cannot be alone in this journey. Starting a practice as a Chartered Accountant involves very critical considerations in terms of planning for it at very early stage. Building a client base, and establishing a strong professional network should always be the motive even though I’m not established myself as a practicing Chartered Accountant. As they say, if your goals are clear, you are genuinely thriving for it, entire universe will automatically create an environment which supports your cause. Likewise, I’m fortunate enough to say I’m in the right hands. I joined as manager at @ANKJ & Associates few months back and I feel everything what I have desired for is falling in place. Very much grateful for the opportunity and the vibrant work culture. Kudos to my mentors @Ankit Jain & @Naman Jain for maintaining positive atmosphere at the work place and future is ahead of us many things to achieve together. In conclusion, the journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant is a challenging but immensely rewarding endeavor. It involves a combination of academic achievement, practical experience, and ongoing professional development. The moment you think you know it all is the moment you become obsolete. This one hit home for me, as I realize how quickly the accounting landscape is changing. I'm committing to continuous learning and professional development to stay ahead of the curve. 2. *𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬*. Your professional network is your net worth. I've seen the power of networking firsthand, and I'm making a conscious effort to nurture my relationships and expand my network. 3. *𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬*. Don't be afraid to try new things and step outside your comfort zone. This one is tough for me, but I know it's essential for growth. I'm challenging myself to take on new projects and speak up more in meetings. Time is a valuable asset, use it judiciously. 📌 Effective Communication: Effective communication doesn’t in any way suggest that you should communicate with other candidates in the exam hall but you should clearly articulate your answers. Ensure your responses are structured, coherent, and directly address the question. Clarity in communication reflects a deep understanding of the subject matter. 📌 Peer Discussion: Engage in discussions with fellow candidates. Explaining concepts points and sharing ideas with others can reinforce your understanding, and you might gain insights from their perspectives as well. 📌 Stay Calm under Pressure: Exams can be stressful, but maintaining composure is crucial. Take deep breaths if needed, and approach each question with a focused mindset. A calm mind facilitates better problem-solving. 📌 Lastly, Assume your score per answer you give while exercising the highest form of prudence in allocating marks to each answer you have provided based on the score per question. This helps you have an idea of the barest minimum score you can have in that paper, if it doesn’t meet the pass mark you think deeply and provide more answers! Remember, success is not just about the destination but the journey and effort you put into it. Your commitment to the accounting profession is commendable, and I am confident that your hard work will yield outstanding results. Best of luck, and may the knowledge you've acquired shine brightly in your examination hall.
