Stepping away from the spotlight and never appearing on a film set again is not on Ian McKellen's agenda, at least in the short term.

At 84, he believes that he is living a golden age in his already extensive career in the world of acting, in which he has accumulated great successes such as the trilogy of 'The Lord of the Rings' or his participation in the 'X-Men' saga and the iconic 'Gods and Monsters'.

Given his age, doubts about McKellen have dogged him for years, but he is determined to keep dodging retirement.

Speaking to Spanish outlet eCartelera, the British actor responded with a wry "for what?" when questioned about retirement from acting.

"I've never been out of work, but I'm aware that at any moment something could happen to me that prevents me from going back to work," he said.

"But as long as the knees hold up and the memory remains intact, why shouldn't I do it?

"I really feel I'm quite good at this acting thing now."

Future projects for Ian McKellen

In fact, it doesn't seem that his end in the 'X-Men' saga has come, according to McKellen's partner Patrick Stewart.

"Ian and I are not finished, we have plans," Stewart said.

One of his next appearances is speculated to be in 'Deadpool 3', reprising his 84-year-old role as Magneto.

In addition, rumours suggest that the plans with 'The Lord of the Rings' are not over, so it would be possible to enjoy the wizard Gandalf again on the big screen.

At the moment, however, nothing has been confirmed and the last time McKellen played one of his most beloved characters was in 2014 with 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies'.
