[African American- Music] Duke Ellington archive of 2 portraits. Associated Booking Corportation, n.d. Includes two black and white portraits of Duke Ellington. One photo measures 8" x 7" and the second photo measures 10" x 8". Duke Ellington was an American jazz pianist, composer, and leader of his eponymous jazz orchestra from 1923 through the rest of his life.
Ellington gained a national profile through his orchestra's appearances at the Cotton Club in Harlem. One image captures Ellington charismatically playing piano, where the other captures him smiling towards the camera in a plaid suit. Annotations on the versos of both images, and faint blue pen annotations on the blank white margin below one image. In very good condition.
