Future Camp Nou to feature three big video scoreboards, unveiled

The Spotify Camp Nou took center stage on Monday afternoon at the event held at the COAC (College of Architects of Catalonia), in collaboration with FC Barcelona. The event unveiled the history of the stadium and its evolution over the years, along with the project for the future Espai Barça, currently under construction.

A highlight of the event was the new renders (digital images created from a 3D model or scenario on a computer) showcasing the largest cover in Europe with three big video scoreboards, instead of the 360º marker seen in previous renders. The press room design, resembling a theater, and a VIP Zone on the third tier with a terrace bar were also revealed.

Guillem Costa Calsamiglia, the dean of COAC, greeted us, while the introduction was given by Elena Fort i Cisneros, the vice president of FC Barcelona. Architect Lluís Moya Ferrer, the director of the Technical Area of Espai Barça, presented the project for the future Espai Barça.

The design for the future Spotify Camp Nou, by IDOM, Nikken Sekkei, and b720, aims to strike a balance between preserving the essence of the original project and creating a connection with the city and neighborhood, as envisioned in the proposal by Nikken Sekkei and Pascual-Ausió Arquitectes, winners of the 2016 competition.

The architect Ignacio López Alonso, who is the deputy director of the ETSAB, talked about the history and evolution of the Camp Nou. Ignacio López focused his doctoral thesis on the project done by the architect Francesc Mitjans, along with Josep Soteras and Lorenzo García-Barbón, in 1957. Titled “Francesc Mitjans and the Camp Nou: previous studies, executive project and construction management, 1954-1957” (2014), the thesis analyzed the design and construction process of the stadium using original materials from its creators.
