Description

Agathis lenticula is a coniferous tree that belongs to the family Araucariaceae. The species epithet is derived from Latin word, lenticularis meaning a double convex lens, which refers to the leaf shape. It can grow up to 45 m tall. The male cones are cylindrical measuring up to 4 cm long and 10 mm in diameter. Meanwhile, the female cones are spherical, measuring around 7 x 6 cm. It is endemic to Borneo, where it is distributed in mossy rainforest in Sabah at 1,140-1,680 m a.s.l. and Brunei. It is commonly called tangilan or tungilan by the Dusun ethnic (Yii, 1995).
