Origin
The Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green', also known as the Austrian pine, originates from Central and Southeast Europe. The tree is predominantly found in countries like Austria, Italy, and the Balkans. The tree was brought to Oregon in the United States, where it further developed into the 'Oregon Green' variety.

Characteristics
The Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green' is an evergreen species, recognised for its compact and conical growth pattern. At maturity, the tree can reach a height between sixteen and twenty metres. The tree bears glossy, dark green needles and produces large, dark brown cones. This pine also has a thick and rough bark that over the years turns from grey to almost black.

Care
The Pinus nigra 'Oregon Green' prefers full sunlight but is tolerant of a wide range of soils, including dry and rocky earth. It is resistant to drought, once well-established, and is generally low maintenance. The tree needs good drainage and performs best in regions with cooler summers. Pruning is generally not necessary unless the aim is to control the size or shape of the tree.
