While larix have the appearance of evergreens, they shed their needles every fall. The brilliant show of golden-yellow needles makes it visually striking in the autumn months. An outstanding specimen when amongst large rocks or near water features. Can be staked to any desired height; possibly up to 3 metres.
According to The American Conifer Society, frequently substituted by Larix kaempferi 'Pendula' and interchangeably mislabeled. The easiest way to differentiate is by examination of branchlets. L. decidua is always tawny brown in color, while L. kaempferi is pinkish-purple.
