Podocarpus totara ‘Aurea’, commonly known as Golden Totara, is a popular and colourful, NZ native tree. It features golden foliage, which is made up of short, needle-like leaves that are held densely. It typically grows to 10 m tall and 3 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site though it is tolerant of mild drought, frost, cool climates, and coastal environments. Golden Totara is commonly included in a mixed planting in a medium-large garden, used in revegetation and native plantings, grown as a specimen, or trimmed into a hedge.
